Jacob’s Missing Book

Jacob's Missing Book

About the Book

Jacob—the star of one of the most banned books of the decade—is back in Jacob’s Missing Book, a kid-friendly story about book banning, censorship, and LGBTQ+ rights.

Noah is confused about Emily’s family, so he asks her―who’s Papa and who’s Dad? Jacob knows just how to explain, but he can’t—the book he needs isn’t in the library anymore! As the day goes on, everyone talks about the mysterious missing book. Ms. Reeves tries to explain why the book is no longer in the library and what all the fuss is about. In the meantime, Jacob hatches a plan to share the story about Emily’s family with all their friends.

What People Are Saying:

“Brilliantly executed, timely, and developmentally appropriate. Jacob’s Missing Book is the story every teacher, parent, and librarian should read aloud to help children understand book banning. It will also enlighten adults as to how book banning impacts providing children with crucial windows, mirrors, and sliding glass doors. This title is the exemplar of inclusivity and representation. A must read!”

Susan B. Katz, bestselling, award-winning author August 26, 2024

“An impactful and masterfully written book.”

Elizabeth Goldman, Golden State Readers August 26, 2024

“Jacob is back in a timely story about book censorship, broaching the topic in a relatable, kid-friendly way with plenty of room for discussion…There’s a lot to like here: the child’s-eye perspective on the impact of book bans; the gentle depiction of why representation is important; and the ending that doesn’t offer a saccharine resolution, but leaves room for hope…A helpful conversation starter for children experiencing book bans and the grown-ups seeking to explain them.”
